We support free knowledge in Ireland, in English agus as Gaeilge, as part of the Wikimedia movement, the non-profit behind Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
What we do
- Editing events: open, in-person and online
- Photography competitions: Wiki Loves Folklore, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Pride and others, covering tangible and intangible heritage, ecology and culture in Ireland.
- GLAM partnerships: working with archives, libraries and museums to collaborate on events, projects and work to release collections under free licence.
- Irish language: supporting Vicipéid, the Irish-language Wikipedia, now over 64,000 articles, with a dedicated Irish Language Officer role on our staffed team.
- Education: creating educations resoruces and working on projects such as the WikiWomen Erasmus+ project partners with secondary schools to research and write biographies of underrepresented groups on Wikpedia.
Meitheal (meh-hal) is the Irish word for ‘working party’; a community gathering of neighbours, coming together for a job too big for one person. Whether that’s harvesting a field, builing a house, or creating a Wikipedia page! Our events run on that notion; open to everyone, editors and beginners alike. Check out some of our past events here.
