Wikimedia Community Ireland is excited to announce the talented winners of the Wiki Loves Earth photography competition for 2024!
This year, we were overwhelmed by the number of stunning entries that showcased the diverse and awe-inspiring natural landscapes and wildlife found across Ireland. From rugged coastlines to tranquil forests, and from majestic mountains to delicate ecosystems, each photograph encapsulated the beauty and significance of these protected areas, offering a window into the rich natural heritage we strive to protect.
About Wiki Loves Earth
For those unfamiliar, Wiki Loves Earth is an annual photography contest held to encourage the documentation of protected natural areas for use on Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia. This initiative not only promotes the appreciation of natural beauty but also creates an open-access resource for images that can educate and inspire people worldwide.
This year, we received hundreds of submissions from nature lovers and photographers in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The judging panel, consisting of experts in photography, biodiversity, and conservation, faced the daunting task of selecting winners from a truly exceptional array of images.
