We are pleased to announce the winners of the “Aiteachas a chur ar Vicipéid (Queering Vicipéid)” writing competition!
What’s Queering Wikipedia?
Queering Wikipedia is part of the global Wiki Loves Pride campaign to expand and improve LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. Most activities of Wiki Loves Pride take place between June and October, traditionally the months when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities around the world celebrate LGBT culture and history.
This year Wikimedia Community Ireland focused on creating and improving LGBT content on Vicipéid through Irish and on improving content on Irish LGBT histories and biographies. Aiteachas a chur ar Vicipéid (Queering Vicipéid) was a writing contest that took place from June to October as part of this campaign.
Creating new content for Vicipéid is essential to enriching the Irish language and making it more relevant within the Irish-speaking community. Thank you to everyone who took part and now for our winners……..

🥈 2nd Prize: User:Ciaranicosgara – for the article ‘Stair lucht LADT in Éirinn’
Congratulations to both winners for their outstanding work in advancing LGBTQ+ content on Vicipéid. Their articles provide valuable insights into the history and culture of the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland.
This contest was judged by our Irish Language Officer who paid careful attention to the quality of the content and adherance to the Wikipedia guidlines such as notability and neutrality when selecting the winners. Theses articles add value to the wider canon of knowledge available in Irish making it more inclusive and diverse.
Over the last two years, volunteer contributors to Vicipéid have created 4,000 new articles, significantly adding to the wealth of this free encyclopedia in Irish. Through their efforts, we are helping to diversify the language online and creating a valuable resource for Irish speakers, as well as for those learning the language. It is important that we continue to contribute to news, culture, history, and social topics that reflect Irish life and experiences.

Cad é Aiteachas a chur ar Vicipéid?
Is feachtas domhanda é Wiki Loves Pride chun ábhar a bhaineann le LADT a leathnú agus a fheabhsú thar gach tionscadal Wikimedia, i ngach teanga. Tarlaíonn an chuid is mó de ghníomhaíochtaí Wiki Loves Pride idir Meitheamh agus Deireadh Fómhair, go traidisiúnta na míonna nuair a cheiliúrann pobail leispiacha, aeracha, déghnéasacha agus trasinscne (LADT) ar fud an domhain cultúr agus stair LADT.

Comhghairdeas mór leo as an obair iontach a rinne siad chun ábhar LADTA+ a chur chun cinn ar Vicipéid. Leis na hailt seo, tá siad ag cur le léargas níos fearr a fháil ar stair agus cultúr LADTA+ in Éirinn.
Tá sé ríthábhachtach ábhar nua a chruthú ar Vicipéid chun ábhar i nGaeilge a roinnt agus a dhéanamh níos ábhartha do phobal na Gaeilge. Le dhá bhliain anuas, tá oibrithe deonacha ar Vicipéid tar éis 4,000 alt nua a chruthú, ag cur le saibhreas na ciclipéide seo i nGaeilge. Trí obair na sríbhneoirí seo, táimid ag cabhrú le éagsúlú na teanga ar líne agus ag cruthú acmhainn fíor-luachmhar do lucht labhartha na Gaeilge, ach freisin le daoine atá ag foghlaim na teanga.

Beidh na buaiteoirí don chomórtas scríbhneoireachta Wiki Science, a dúnadh ar an 15ú Nollaig, á fhógairt san athbhliain. Coinnigh súil amach ar ár meáin shóisialta maidir le na buaiteoirí seo!
