The internet is not a neutral space—it reflects the structures, biases, and inequalities of our world. But what if it didn’t?
Art+Feminism is an International Wikimedia Campaign that dares us to imagine and initiate a more equal world, starting with the internet. What if we held the power to create a feminist internet that amplifies marginalised voices, dismantles existing power imbalances, and fosters safer, more collaborative digital spaces for all? What would that look like?
Wikimedia Community Ireland is taking part in the Art+Feminism Campaign 2025-2026. Throughout the next two years, we will be joining the international community in continuing to reimagine what’s possible, and the ways we can empower ourselves and others for change.
To kick off Art+Feminism 2025 we asked our network: What would a truly feminist internet look like?
This question is a starting point. A call to action- to start imagining the ways in which we can shape the digital landscape. To visual artists, feminists, technologists, Wikimedians, activists, GLAM workers, and anyone committed to gender justice: the time to act is now.
What does a feminist internet look like to you? What steps can you take today to make it a reality? As digital citizens, we can shape an internet that reflects diverse global histories of art-making, where communities who have most often been written out of history feel welcome and empowered to participate in writing (and righting) our stories.
A truly feminist internet is something that is in our hands to define. We invite you to join us and become a digital activist. Let’s reimagine and actively build a more inclusive, equitable internet for everyone. We will have events, editathons and discussions coming so watch this space!
