This International Women’s Day we are calling upon the Trinity College Community to become digital activists and help to close the gender gap on Wikipedia! Join our Art+Feminsim event aimed to help promote the diverse global histories of art making.
In collaboration with Women in Research and Trinity College Dublin and Wikimedian in Residence Kitamura Sae, we are delighted to invite students, and faculty members from Trinity College along with Wikimedians to participate in an Edit-a-thon ahead of International Women’s Day 2025.
Using various resources, participants will edit biographical articles about women artists. No previous knowledge about Wikipedia is needed. The editing session will follow after a short talk about the library and a lecture about Wikipedia and gender. Prior registration is necessary, and participants must bring their own laptops to the event.
We welcome participants editing across all languages, especially Irish and Japanese, as this is also a collaboration with our Japanese Wikimedian in Residence.

No previous knowledge about Wikipedia is needed. Prior registration is necessary. We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, and refreshments. Please bring your own laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation.

Event Outline
Sae our Wikimedian in residence will give an introduction to editing Wikipedia and how the gender gap manifests in the online encyclopaedia. One of the Trinity Librarians will also introduce us to sources and how we can make the most of accessing information in our libraries for digital activism.

The vision of the Art+Feminism Project is to actively create an internet that reflects diverse global histories of art-making, where communities who have most often been written out of history feel welcome and empowered to participate in writing (and righting) stories. Art+Feminism’s Edit-a-thons and other initiatives make an impact on the gender gap through crucial improvements to gender, feminism and art-related subjects on Wikipedia. Since 2014, Art+Feminism edit-a-thons have taken place across the world, creating and improving over 11,000 articles.
