As summer draws to a close, we’re looking back on a busy season for Wikimedia Community Ireland and ahead to exciting events this autumn. We have our next Community Meeting coming up on August 26th, which you are welcome to join. This is also the last call for the Wiki Loves Pride Photo Contest, which will close at the end of the month. From Community editathons to Heritage Week celebrations, there’s plenty happening across our community. In this newsletter, you’ll find updates on upcoming contests (Wiki Loves Monuments!), conferences (Women’s History Network!), volunteer opportunities and highlights of recent projects that are helping to make knowledge more open, inclusive, and accessible for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned Wikimedian or just getting started, we’re delighted to have you with us on this journey.

Women’s History Network Annual Conferece 2025 on September 4th

Sophie, our Projects and Communications Manager, will be presenting at the National Women’s History Network 33rd Annual Conference on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 September 2025 Hidden in Plain Sight: Women in Archives, Libraries, Museums and Personal Collections.

The art world — like much of recorded history — has long excluded women, gender minorities, and especially Black, Indigenous, and women of color. Wikipedia offers a powerful, accessible platform to challenge this imbalance, yet significant gender gaps persist: as of January 2025, less than 19% of its content is about women, and only 15% of contributors are women. Her presentation will examine the work of Art+Feminism and WikiWomen in addressing these disparities, exploring how feminist approaches to editing can both amplify marginalised voices and navigate the challenges of making the internet a more equal, collaborative, and safe space.

Announcing the Judges for Wiki Loves Pride 2025 in Ireland

Wiki Loves Pride is an International Photo competition that aims to make queer culture more visible in the digital space and document Pride Month in Ireland. We are delighted to announce our amazing panel of judges who will be helping us select the winners of this year’s contest.

Wiki Loves Pride is open until August 31st to amateur and professional photographers alike! We are inviting you to document and celebrate queer life, past and present. Whether it’s a bustling Pride parade or a historic queer landmark, your photos help bring visibility to LGBTQI+ lives and stories on Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia and Vicipéid.

Celtic Knot is Returns in September 2025 for an Online Celebration Day

Wikimedia UK and Wikimedia Community Ireland are delighted to announce the Celtic Knot Online Celebration Day 2025, taking place virtually on Tuesday, 23rd September, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (BST/IST).

This special online event invites contributors, advocates, and community members working with Celtic and other minority and minoritised languages to reconnect and celebrate the progress made since our in-person gathering in Ireland last year.

The programme will feature a dynamic mix of presentations, lightning talks, interactive workshops, and community-led activities—all hosted via Zoom. It’s an opportunity to share updates, exchange ideas, and explore new collaborations that support the growth of Wikimedia’s language communities.

Celebrate Heritage Week with Wiki Loves Monuments Ireland 2025

Wiki Loves Monuments Ireland is back for its 12th year! To celebrate Heritage Week, the photo contest is opening at the slightly earlier date of August 24th and will run until the end of September.

There are loads of events happening all over Ireland this Hertiage Week that celebrate Irish built heritage, including open access and tours to hundreds are monuments nationwide. This is the perfect opportunity to take some snaps and upload photos of monuments and built heritage to Wiki Commons, plus we have lots of prizes up for grabs! Keep an eye out on our website for more information, including a guide to uploading your entries, an interactive map to help you find monuments that need to be documented and our interactive gallery of previous winners for inspiration!

Beidh cruinniú eile ar na bacáin do thionscadal WikiMuir, lenár gcomhpháirtithe in Albain agus i Wikimedia na Ríochta Aontaithe. Más maith le heagarthóirí Vicipéide bheith páirteach san obair sin – go háirithe má tá spéis agaibh i gceangal idir teanga, cultúr agus an fharraige – cuirigí teachtaireacht chugam le bhur dtoil!

Tá MeithealWiki Lúnasa faoi lán seoil faoi láthair mar chuid den fheachtas Is Breá le Vicí Bród 2025. Tá liosta ailt (as Gaeilge agus as Béarla) le feabhsú ar an deais anseo. Fáilte mhór roimh chách – idir eagarthóirí nua agus daoine le taithí. Bígí linn le scéalta LADTA+ a chur ar fáil, grianghraif a roinnt agus cuidiú le Vicipéid a dhéanamh níos cuimsithí.
