As Autumn crept in, the judging process for Wiki Loves Earth 2025 was a wonderful reminiscence of summer with its life and lushness in the wilds of the island of Ireland. After much deliberation on behalf of our fabulous judging panel, we are happy to announce the winners of Wiki Loves Earth 2025 in Ireland and Northern Ireland!
The photographs chosen will each win a wonderful prize with some progressing onto the international stage of the contest. All photos that were entered will be used on Wikimedia to showcase Ireland’s natural heritage, with many being very useful in education and knowledge, as they now illustrate Wikipedia articles about different protected landscapes which did not previously have images to accompany them.
This year, we had a whopping 635 entries (529 from Ireland and 106 from Northern Ireland). On behalf of WCI, I give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who entered the contest. Your contributions to open knowledge do not go unnoticed!
I extend sincere thanks to our jury: Oisín O’Neill, Environmental Advocate and Solicitor, Gaelic Woodlands Project; Ronald Surgenor, Photographer, Ulster Wildlife; and Eimear Harkin, Artist. Our dedicated judging panel gave their artistic eye and knowledge, biodiversity and dedication to Ireland’s natural heritage to the judging process. Thanks also goes out to our partners at Ulster Wildlife and World Oceans Day, who helped to support and promote the contest.
