Welcome to the February 2026 newsletter! It’s cold and grey out there but things are busy at WCI – we’ve got events to share, a community meeting tomorrow, and the excitement of Seachtain na Gaeilge building on the horizon. Here’s your roundup.

Wikimedia Loves Folk 2026 + The Sperrins

Wikimedia Loves Folk 2026 is on its way, and our colleague Laura has written a wonderful post about the Sperrins and the incredible folk heritage waiting to be documented there. Whether you’re interested in photography, recording, or editing, there’s a role for you.

Wikimedia Community Ireland at CESIcon

Wikimedia Community Ireland will be heading to Limerick this Saturday, 28 February, for CESIcon 2026! It’s a great opportunity to share our work, connect with new audiences, and explore potential partnerships.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026 with Wikimedia

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026 runs from 1–17 March, and we’re putting together a range of events focused on Vicipéid, Wikimedia Commons, and Irish language digital culture. Keep an eye out for more details soon – and if you have ideas or want to help out, we’d love to hear from you.

Collaboration: Art+Feminism with the Hunt Museum and Ard Scoil Mhuire, Limerick

Two weeks ago, our Community Manager Amy visited the Hunt Museum to kick off an Art+Feminism Wikithon with students from Ard Scoil Mhuire. She’s heading back this week to finish the Wikithon with the class and get their articles and contributions live on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. It’s a brilliant example of bringing real digital skills into the classroom and connecting young people in Ireland with the global open knowledge movement.
