April covered a lot of ground – reviewing March results, advancing year planning, and attending events both in Ireland and abroad.
Aonach na Gaeilge, UCD | 14 April
Amy and Lára attended Aonach na Gaeilge at UCD on 14 April. They met students from Teach na Gaeilge and UCD Gaeltacht who are involved in organising the event, and spoke with second- and third-level students about opportunities to contribute to Vicipéid and to use Irish day-to-day.
WMEU General Assembly and Future Labs, Prague | 23–26 April
Amy and Lára attended the Wikimedia Europe (WMEU) General Assembly in Prague from 23–25 April. Amy voted on behalf of Shannon, WCI’s chair. The gathering brought together affiliates from across Europe (including several Amy had met at Celtic Knot 2024) as well as members of the WMF Board. Sessions covered brainstorming, discussion, and information sharing across a range of movement topics. Future Labs followed on 26 April.
PLURILINGMEDIA workshop and panel, Galway | 28 April
On the morning of 28 April, Amy participated as a panelist at the PLURILINGMEDIA workshop at the University of Galway. The panel included representatives from Conradh na Gaeilge, Tuismitheoirí na Gaeilge, and a Language Planning Officer from Connemara, and focused on how organisations use Irish-language media and resources. Amy spoke about how Vicipéid both produces content and depends on reliable, high-quality Irish-language publications as sources – and that the supply of such material needs to grow to meet that demand.
End-of-year report, Wiki Loves Earth, and Wiki Loves Folklore
The end-of-year report is the main focus for Q4. Wiki Loves Earth is now open and runs until the end of June. Wiki Loves Folklore winners will be announced soon.
