Wiki Loves Earth Ireland 2026 opened on 1 May 2026. The photography competition runs until 30 June 2026 and is open to anyone on the island of Ireland.
Participants photograph natural protected areas (including National Parks, Special Areas of Conservation, and Ramsar Sites) and upload their images to Wikimedia Commons under a CC BY-SA licence. Images uploaded through the competition are freely reusable on Wikipedia and elsewhere. A full list of eligible sites is available for Leinster, Munster, Ulster, and Connacht on the competition page. This is the seventh edition of Wiki Loves Earth in Ireland.
A jury will select the ten best photographs from Ireland at the end of the competition period. Prizes range from €30 to €250 and will be awarded as Oneforall or Amazon vouchers. Judging criteria are technical quality, originality, and usefulness of the image for Wikipedia.
Is Breá le Vicí an Domhan 2026
Alongside the photography competition, Wikimedia Community Ireland is running Is Breá le Vicí an Domhan 2026, an editing project on Irish-language Wikipedia (Vicipéid). The project focuses on a content gap identified at the March 2026 Wikimedia Community Ireland meeting: articles on Irish native and invasive plant species are absent or underdeveloped on Vicipéid.
Participants can contribute in several ways: creating new articles, improving existing ones, adding references, categories, or images, or correcting Wikidata entries. No prior editing experience is required. A list of species without articles, a list of articles needing improvement, and a set of Irish-language and scientific resources are available on the project page.
