Wiki Loves Pride 2026 is now open! The annual Wikipedia photography campaign runs each June as part of a global effort to improve how LGBTQ+ history, culture, and community is represented on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and related projects. This year, the campaign runs from 1 June to 31 August, and participants in Ireland are invited to take part.
The competition is open to anyone. Photos should document LGBTQIA+ life in Ireland – past or present. This can include pride events and community gatherings, monuments, memorials and heritage sites, queer spaces, art, activism, protest, and everyday life. Photos can be taken at any time; they do not need to be taken during the competition window. All submitted photos are openly licensed and added to Wikimedia Commons, where they are available for use across Wikipedia, Vicipéid, and other Wikimedia projects.
To enter, upload your photos to Wikimedia Commons and tag them with the category Wiki Loves Pride 2026 in Ireland. Full competition details and upload instructions are available on the competition page.

Events this summer
We are running two in-person events this June as part of Wiki Loves Pride 2026.
Collaboration with Pride fo the Déise
On Tuesday 2 June, we are hosting a Wikipedia editing workshop at Ardkeen Library, Waterford, in partnership with Pride of the Déise. The session runs from 3:30–6:30pm, is free to attend, and runs bilingually in Irish and English. No prior Wikipedia experience is needed. Previous sessions in Waterford have produced Wikipedia articles on Garter Lane Arts Centre and Irish LGBTQ+ activist Izzy Kamikaze. Book your place on Eventbrite.
Collaboration with the National Library of Irelnd and the Irish Queer Archive
On Friday 19 June, we are hosting Out of the Archive + Into the Record, a free full-day public event at the National Library of Ireland, Kildare Street, Dublin 2, in partnership with the NLI and the Irish Queer Archive, and support from Wikimedia LGBT+ and Dublin Pride. The event runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm and includes archive talks from historians and archivists, access to special collections, a hands-on Wikipedia editing workshop, a community meitheal editing marathon with live impact tracking, and an optional Dublin queer history self-guided photo walk. Lunch is included. Photos taken on the walk are eligible for entry into the competition. Book your place on Eventbrite.

Get involved! Inviting community groups and GLAMs to host an event
The competition and campaign run all summer. If you are a community organisation, archive, library, museum, or other GLAM institution and would like to host an editing workshop or photography session as part of Wiki Loves Pride 2026, we would like to hear from you. We can bring our Wiki expertise, enthusiasm and lots of stickers!
